We kick off this new show with something very old. On this episode, we’ll hear Orson Welles as The Shadow in Death House Rescue from September 26, 1937. This is the earliest example of Welles on the radio that I’ve been able to find. His role as The Shadow was anonymous, no doubt to maintain the mystique of the crime fighter!

I love the Orson Welles shows. It’s too bad there aren’t more of the Harry Lime broadcasts.
I’ll play a Harry Lime episode on the next show. Did you mean too bad there weren’t more here, or more in the series? You can bet we’ll have all 52 here eventually!
I see Radio Spirits is releasing two more “lost” Shadow episodes, “Mark Of The Bat” and “The Witch Drums Of Salem”. Has anyone heard the Shadow episodes “The Old People” and “Voice Of The Trumpet”? How’s the quality? Too bad those aren’t available for download, but I’m sure there’s a real copyright problem with those. I guess I’ll have to save my pennies to get these two expensive sets. But as an Orson Welles fan, I’ve gotta have them…
