
M.R. James
Best remembered for his ghost stories, British author Montague Rhodes James was born August 1, 1862. Before his death on June 12, 1936, James would serve as provost of King's College, Cambridge and of Eton College, as well as becoming a noted mediaeval scholar. James wrote a number of supernatural short stories, and is said to have influenced the likes of Stephen King and Ramsey Campbell.
James' horror tales have been adapted numerous times for audio dramas, stage, music, television, and film. The 1957 film Night Of The Demon was based on his Casting The Runes, and is said to be one of the high points of British horror film. You can read more about M.R. James at VintageHorror.com.
